embracing heaven & earth by andrew cohen – tenet 1 of 5
Impressions by Jodi Hyde
dedicated to Annette Vanden Berg (9.4.1925-12.4.2010)
I flew across the country recently & on my plane ride, I had the immense pleasure of reading this work. Please let me preface this by warning folks that this information is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. I will now share the first of five fundamental tenets of enlightenment offered by cohen.
the first tenet: Clarity of Intention
“If you want to be free, if you want to be a liberated human being, then it is essential that you become interested in what it means to be simple – terrifyingly simple, frighteningly simple, shockingly simple….
The movement from bondage to Liberation is the movement from complexity to simplicity. And this movement, the movement from complexity to simplicity, will in the end require the renunciation of all that is false, wrong and untrue. It will demand the willingness to transcend all that is superficial and irrelevant….
If we want to become simple, then instead of wanting many things, as most of us do, we have to come that point where we want only one thing. That’s all there is to it….
If we want only one thing and that is Liberation alone, then our vision becomes clear and distinct and our attention becomes focused. Why? Because we want only one thing.”
Stay tuned for the next tenet, The Law of Volitionality.
